'Doo Creative’ sweeps Hyderabad Adex 2010 with 15 awards

Doo Creative opened its account at the recently held Adex Awards 2010 Hyderabad by winning 15 awards including the coveted ‘Multimedia Campaign of the Year’. Coincidentally, the agency is just 15 months old and emerged winner beating many national and local agencies.

The agency won 6 gold and 9 silver. The gold was for Multi media campaign, Illustration of the Year, Campaign – Retail, Brochure, Wall Calendar and Desk Calendar. The silver was for Corporate Single Advertisement, Product Campaign – Consumer durable, Product Campaign – Service, Single Advertisement Consumer Durable – English, Booklet, Brochure, Direct Response Mailer, Annual Report and Packaging.

Badam milk like no other in Andhra Pradesh by Viswaprasad Raju

For 60 years now, people in and around Bhimavaram, a busy town in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, have been frequenting a place called Rama Ice Parlour.

Rama Ice Parlour is no ordinary place. Especially in today’s times, when stores die out in a matter of months, this place has been steadfast. Packed with customers at all times, everything cold is served with a warm smile here.

Ice creams aside, the specialties are badam milk and fruit juice and, not to forget, sugar-free vanilla and pista drinks. The place isn’t big, but has two compartments. The first one has a view of the traffic snarling while the other is cozy and cuts the traffic sounds dramatically, so that you can sip your favourite in a jiffy and then ask for ‘one more’, because, you simply can’t have one and be done.

But it's the all-time hit badam milk that takes the cake: a generous dose of neatly sliced almonds, shredded to perfection makes it a struggle for the badam milk to make its way through, but when it reaches your mouth, it's a party for your taste buds.

And they have a special badam milk too. What makes it "special"? A dollop of ice cream. You'll probably will want to have seconds of that too.

Showcasing 2011 calendar ‘Green Guardians’ designed by Doo Creative and photographed by Cannes awarded photographer Suresh Natarajan.

The United Nations has declared 2011 as ‘International Year of Forests.’

The calendar concept ‘Green Guardians’ conceptualized and designed by Doo Creative India Pvt. Ltd. for one of its clients aesthetically draws attention to the need to become guardians of Mother Nature. The calendar leaves depict models in organic wear, wielding a primitive weapon in their role as green guardians.

Doo Creative India Pvt. Ltd. is a young, Hyderabad based agency. Started in February 2010, Doo Creative’s founding team has Hyderabad’s most awarded creative talent on board. The brief to the agency was to get calendars back on walls with a subject that balanced cause with beauty.

The photographer is India’s ace lensman Suresh Natarajan, the man who breathed visual magic into path breaking campaigns like Hutch, Vodafone, Tanishq, Globus, Wills Lifestyle, besides capturing celebrities with their best face forward for the covers of fashion magazines like Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and Filmfare to name a few. His wizardry with the lens has won him national and international accolades, the ultimate being the Cannes for the ad ‘Second hand smoke kills’.

Shot entirely in South Africa, with an international cast, stylists and crew, the images compare with the best in international visual imagery.

The calendar is all set to grace walls worldwide as it will be distributed across the world. And hopefully showcase that Hyderabad is second to none in producing works of creative excellence.

Head over hills by Viswaprasad Raju

Around 40 kms off Tirupati, in Andhra Pradesh, there’s a divine place for nature lovers: Talakona, a combination of two words in Telugu, Tala (head) and Kona (hills). Being close to the entrance of the abode of Lord Sri Venketeshwara, which receives a staggering 40,000 devotees every day, the divine connection can’t be missed. While most pilgrims make a beeline to have a darshan (deity viewing) of the God a few visitors take a detour and head straight to Talakona to seek nirvana of another kind. To be one with nature, that is.

To get there, what might seem like a step-by-step approach is instead full of unexpected adventure. Climbing a flight of seemingly never ending steps, lovingly kissed by the monsoon, taking each step is a balancing act, and with the breathtaking scenery to boot, it gets even tougher. Watching your step while catching up on the greens (in all possible shades) and keeping a vigil on the hordes of monkeys is an uphill task. Meanwhile, people jostle to move up.

After an energy-sapping but delightful trek, the curtains loosen up and you are presented with picture postcard imagery. You no longer feel the pain in the knee because you are swept off your feet by the heavenly cascade that throws itself down 270 feet, caressing the rocky terrain all along.

When I was there, the kid in me wanted to join the people who were down under the falls, while the adult in me looked around at the monkeys who were all geared up to snatch whatever had been loosened up – cameras, bananas, clothes, binoculars, wallets. Finally, I got someone to escort my belongings and I climbed up the slippery-final-steps to feel the gush of invigorating water. Heaven.

Folklore has it that bathing in the Talakona falls is therapeutic as the water is enriched with herbs. There’s more. Set within Sri Venkateshwara National Park, Talakona plays host to many animal species, from wolves to mouse deers, from four-horned antelops to golden geckos. And for the thrill seekers, there’s the second longest rope way in Asia: 240 metres long at a height of 80 feet. With a waterfall (a song, obviously) and lush environs (a chase scene, deliberately), can a movie unit be far off? It’s a perfect spot to shoot a typical pot-boiler.

Now you know where to head to get some peace and some action. Blessed with both, it’s a place like no other.

Primesite, Mudra MAX’s out-of-home (OOH) solutions unit, has reinitiated a campaign for GSM mobile service operator Aircel in Mumbai. An extension of the ‘Aircel Boat’ campaign that ran last year, this CSR activity for Aircel aims to reach out to people during the rains.

As a part of the campaign, Primesite has put up boats on billboards and buoys at bus queue shelters in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging during the monsoons. The idea is to rescue people stranded in these areas in the event of heavy rainfall. The message is ‘Aircel helps Mumbai to sail through its network’.

Commenting on the campaign, Mandeep Malhotra, senior vice president of Mudra MAX, said, “I am happy that like last year, this year too the Aircel campaign has left an indelible impression in the minds of customers with its forceful and innovative outdoor campaigns. We are now preparing for a few more notable and striking OOH innovations for future brand campaigns of Aircel.”

Last year's campaign won awards at the Singapore Outdoor Advertising Asia ’10 and also bagged two Golds at Media Abbys for Best Use of Outdoor & Special Events.

With a coastal stretch that spans 1000 kilometres, Andhra Pradesh is dotted with specks of beaches. While the known ones – Vizag, Suryalanka, Chirala – get the crowd, there are others where only the locals venture out. Say, Perupalem beach.

Hoping to have the whole beach for myself, I took an auto out in the morning from the frenzy of Palakollu through blink-you-see-blink-you-miss villages. Getting to Perupalem Beach was a real journey: a battery of quacking ducks took over the road and with a hint of attitude deliberately took a zillion years to cover a few meters; giant cut outs of Tollywood (Andhra movie industry) heroes looking like dwarfs next to the never-ending streamer of lanky coconut trees; bright-coloured – some in blue, most in yellow - telephone booths with umbrellas punctuated the road; a road side shack invited me with a fresh brew of coffee.

HLL Lifecare Limited brings on creative partners for two brands

HLL Lifecare Limited, formerly Hindustan Latex, has brought on RK Swamy BBDO and Publicis Ambience as the creative agencies for two products -- Moods and Saheli, respectively. The news was confirmed by Keraleeyan, associate general manager -- product management, HLL Lifecare. A pitch was called for in August, focused on the brand, Moods. Presentations were made by agencies for both brands, but agencies were rated on the basis of their presentations for Moods.

The first round was a 12-agency pitch. Subsequently, three agencies were shortlisted -- RK Swamy BBDO, Publicis Ambience and Bates 141. The first preferred agency was to be given the Moods business, and the second preferred agency would be handed over the Saheli account. The allotments to the two agencies have been made in accordance with this decision, spells out Keraleeyan.

Euro RSCG wins Concerned Communicator Award

Rajasthan Patrika handed out the awards for the 11th Concerned Communicator Award at the JW Marriot on September 16. The 3,100 entries received for the awards were judged by a panel that consisted of Piyush Pandey, Prasoon Joshi, Josy Paul, Prahlad Kakar and Bharat Dabholkar. The topic for the awards was print ads for a social cause.18 countries from across the globe submitted entries for consideration. The awards included 12 Special Mentions, the CCA-UNICEF Special Mention award, International Winner, Best 50 Entries and the Concerned Communicator Award. The winner of the 11th Concerned Communicator Award was team Euro RSCG for Dadima ke gharelu nuske (Grandma's home remedies). The ad gave ancient ways of killing a girl child. Nilesh Vaidya, Ajeet Shukla and Mansi Bindal of Euro RSCG took home the prize money of US$11,000.The winners, along with the 50 best entries, are published in the newspaper, Rajasthan Patrika, and posted on its website. All the winning entries for the year are also published in a book and distributed widely amongst the corporates to encourage them to support social causes.

Kyoorius Designyatra is scheduled to be held in Mumbai this year at the Hotel Renaissance, Powai from September 4 to 7, 2009 and Sir Martin Sorrell and Rodney Fitch are some of the speakers expected at the forum. This is the first time the event will be held in the city. The four day conference, which encompasses design in all form, including advertising and design, architecture design and branding will have also have speakers like Michael Wolff, Wally Olins and Priya Paul among others. The Netherlands is part of the event as partner country and will see active participation from Dutch designers as speakers and delegates.

It is the second, third and fourth day that are most relevant to the advertising fraternity, with the first day being taken up primarily by architecture design. Besides the usual seminars, the festival will include workshops being conducted by agencies such as Saffron, Fitch, LAVA, QuA, De Designpolitie, INNOA and Addikt among others.

The festival, this year, will include a scheduled matchmaking session. As part of this initiative, 14 Dutch companies will be participating in the festival this year to actively seek collaborations with the Indian design world. The participating firms are active across disciplines such as product design, communication design, project and design management, spatial and retail design, architecture, branding and motion graphics. The collaborations being sought could vary from joint ventures, strategic tie-ups, project based collaborations to outsourcing.

There was a nasty nip in the air and, to add to it, the early winter morning fog hesitated to budge even an inch, not until the sharp sun rays filtered in and did the needful. An all-white template transformed into a slideshow of breathtaking scenery. The rickety auto now caught pace and soon lanky coconut trees, acres of green fields, occasional toddy-toppers, smiling villagers glided past briskly.

Soon we were at Polavaram, the boarding port, where the sight of a lone cruise boat with a fluttering flag that seemed to wave at us, was truly inviting. Luckily, the-first-come-first-sit offer translated to front seats on the duplex cruise boat that promised panoramic views of Papi Kondalu. JWT widens Senthil Kumar's mandate

In a restructuring move, JWT has widened the mandate of its executive creative director Senthil Kumar. While this will not necessitate a change in designation, it will mean that Kumar will now be responsible for a larger number of offices, in addition to the mandate he currently holds for the Chennai office.
Confirming the move, Colvyn Harris, CEO, JWT India said, "Yes, Senthil's mandate has been widened. Although there will not be a change in his designation, the move will mean a wider geographical mandate. He will now be responsible for Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore, besides Chennai which he was already handling. There is no other change in the Chennai office's structure. We felt Senthil was capable of handling far more than just the Chennai operations and that is what prompted the move to widen his geographical mandate."
